Preventative Dentistry for Children
There are many ways that we can help your child avoid cavities, and dental sealants are one of them. We typically place dental sealants on teeth like molars that have uneven surfaces, making them vulnerable to cavities.
Pediatric dentistry in Wylie, TX is all about monitoring your son or daughter’s oral health to keep it healthy and providing the treatments needed if a problem develops. It’s better for your child, however, to take steps to prevent problems from occurring, and dental sealants help us do that.
A dental sealant is a thin coating of liquid plastic that Dr. Shah applies to the chewing surfaces of molars and pre-molars. He then uses a curing light to set and harden the material, and when he's finished, the surfaces of your child’s teeth will be protected for as long as five years. Dental sealants naturally wear away on their own and will need to be replaced periodically.
At InSmile Dental, we commonly recommend dental sealants for older children in the cavity-prone ages of 10 to 16, but we may also recommend them to protect vulnerable baby teeth from decay.
